Fourth special issue WRX here
/Another case of yellow fever with Senko edition.
ASSURANCE of limited edition status and getting the key in a presentation box is no longer enough - with its latest capped-run car, a version of the WRX, Subaru also includes a special watch.
As with previous specials, the WRX Senko - a Japanese name for ‘flash of light’ - will avail in just 10 units, all in six-speed manual. The price is $74,990, so $2500 above the sticker carried by a regular tS manual WRX.
The car’s main draw is the colour; it looks to be close to - if not the same - sunrise yellow, the hue that furnished on the previous local issue low-count collectible, the BRZ Kiiro. Which is the Japanese word for ‘yellow’.
Subaru New Zealand says the car “marks that moment where everything changes. The instant that acceleration hits and the split second between intention and action” and is destined to strike far past the ordinary.
Aside from the hue and it having a Senko boot badge, the type also furnishes solely in manual and has 19-inch matte black alloy wheels, Recaro front seats in ultrasuede and leather-look accents, has gold Brembo brakes, driver mode settings, sat nav and a large rear spoiler. And yes, you also still get a presentation box for the key.
The watch is valued at just over $1000 and comes from Subaru Technica, Subaru’s performance arm, which in this instance has worked the car’s dynamic tuning, but the engine maintains the usual 202kW tune.
Previous WRX editions based on the same car have been the AKA, the Tatsu and the Todoroki.
Subaru is distributed by Inchcape NZ. General manager Jerry Delaney says the Senko pays tribute to Subaru New Zealand’s continued commitment to offering special edition WRXs to Kiwis.
“Our recently released WRX limited editions the AKA, Tatsu and Todoroki, which were only available in very restricted numbers, have all gone on to be highly prized collectors’ models in New Zealand.
“They have had great resale value and are extremely sort after, even on the second-hand market.”
“Like its limited-edition counterparts, the Senko comes solely in a manual-only configuration, delivering a more focused and distinctive driving experience for passionate fans of the brand.”
