CLEAN Car rebate attention and what it says has become “unprecedented interest” in low-emission Peugeot vehicles has seen the national distributor concoct a plan it says will fast track the launch of two already confirmed incoming battery-driven cars.

From Monday, June 21, franchise holder Auto Distributors New Zealand will accept reservations on the e-208 GT hatch and e-2008 sports utility, which local on-sale is occurring later in the year.

The models’ respective recommended retails of $59,990 and $69,990 drop to $51,365 and $61,365 with application of the full $8625 Clean Car rebate.

“The time is right to build on our low-emission vehicle foundations, enhance our sustainability credentials and make a bold play in what is a lively market place,” said local boss Chris Brown.

Both electric variants have a five-year/100,000 km mechanical warranty and the 50kW battery, driving a 100kW motor, is guaranteed for eight-years/160,000 km for 70 percent of its charge capacity, with the two models offering respective ranges of 340km and 320km as measured by the WLTP scale.

“Peugeot is acknowledged as a leader in new and clean technology in Europe and we aspire to replicate this position here in New Zealand,” said Brown.

“… We are well aware of the change required to achieve the targets the Government is setting.

“We’re incredibly proud to be able to bring these vehicles to market, as New Zealand is one of the few markets outside of Europe to be getting EVs this year.”

In addition to the news of the accelerated launch of the e-208 GT and e-2008 SUV, Peugeot is also increasing production of the plug-in hybrid 3008 GT HYBRID4.

Specification will be similar to the those for the model’s fossil-fuelled equivalents, Brown says, though full details aren’t yet being availed.
