Vanity upgrade for Cayenne

Porsche hopes to strike ‘white gold’ with embellished editions.

WITH pukka Porsche sports cars, updates are often about polishing performance and pedigree – with the brand’s largest and biggest-selling model, though, it seems additional plush and perceived prestige is more important.

That’s the read, at least, from an announcement involving the Cayenne SUV in its wagon and coupe formats.

Incoming Platinum Edition versions comprise existing editions to which Weissach has added styling tweaks, as well as extra equipment, but made no alteration to the drivetrains, suspension, tyres or brakes.

No points for working out that the models main ‘look-at-moi’ identifier is a range of exterior design elements finished in a satin-finish platinum colour.

These including the inlays in the front air intake slats, the Porsche lettering integrated into the LED rear light strip, the badging at the rear and the 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels – which are exclusive to Platinum models.

Meantime, exhaust tailpipes and side window trims are finished in black to give the Platinum playthings a sportier, more purposeful look.

Colour options for the main body panels include solids such as black and white, in addition to the metallic shades Jet Black, Carrara White, Mahogany, Moonlight Blue and Crayon, a sort of pale grey.

Inside, the seats are that Crayon colour and the door sills feature ‘Platinum Edition’ lettering as well as being finished in brushed aluminium. Textured aluminium and silver-coloured trims also proliferate the cabin.

The special models don’t just rely on the additional glam. They also achieve extra equipment as standard over other Cayenne models.

This includes eight-way electrically adjustable seats with the Porsche crest embossed into the leather of the head rests, a Bose surround sound audio system, an analogue clock, panoramic roof, privacy glass and LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System.

This latter feature adjusts the range of the light beam according to driving speed as well as pointing the beam towards the inside curve of a bend depending on the driver's speed and steering angle.

The Platinum Edition option is available on Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne E-Hybrid models as well as, correspondingly, on the Cayenne Coupe. The least expensive costs $160,300, the dearest $194,600.
