Pole position at Goodwood

The next two cars coming from the Sino-Swede EV maker have taken a run on the world’s most famous driveway.

INCOMING additions to the Polestar stable have been unleashed into the public forum.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom marked the 'dynamic debut' of the Polestar 3 and 5, which were both were driven up the 1.86km hillclimb course.

Whereas the first is in production from the early part of next year and was shown undisguised, the second an early engineering prototype, under a camouflage wrap, of a car still two years from general circulation.

The ‘Three’ is a sporty electric crossover that shares running gear with the forthcoming Volvo EX90 large sports utility wagon; the car at Goodwood had a 385kW drivetrain.

The Polestar 5 is a high-performance sedan in a similar vein to the Porsche Taycan, previewed by the Precept concept of 2020.

The verification prototype on show was indicated to have a 659kW and 900Nm, which made it one of the more powerful machines of any shape or size on the course.

The Sino-Swede - as in Geely-owned, Gothenberg-based - brand wasn’t sharing performance figures for the Five, but reports say it delivered rapid acceleration off the start line and was more than capable of spinning up all four wheels, too.

Development of the Polestar 5 is being undertaken in the UK, so the run at Goodwood is more or less on home ground for the newcomer, which makes use of a bonded aluminium structure for lightness.
