A1 intent driving impending EV make

Bullish new entry Xpeng is suggesting it will be different to other car makes out of China already in NZ.

ANOTHER inbound brand from China says its vision for New Zealand is to focus on smart mobility solutions beyond electric vehicles.

Xpeng, which self-describes as a smart EV manufacturer, is preparing for its official launch here later this year, starting with the G6, a medium sized coupe sports utility wagon.

The brand has caused ruction in China by predicting few of the more than 150 car makers in current operation will be successful, and suggests many will be gone by 2030.

Though another car making newcomer - the Guangzhou-headquartered firm founded in 2014 and only began its global expansion in 2020 - it, of course, has expressed confidence it will be among survivors.

Xpeng this week said one element that should assure its long-term well-bering is its ambition to redefine the driving experience by integrating sustainability with intelligent technology.

The company's strategy includes introducing vehicles that are not only electric but also intelligent and seamlessly connected.

For New Zealand drivers, it says, this means access to technology that adapts to local conditions, enhances safety, and elevates everyday mobility.

Xpeng intends its EVs to have connected services and smart mobility solutions.

In shared comment, head of marketing Damian Royce said: “We see New Zealand as the ideal market to pioneer smart mobility beyond electrification.

“Specifically, by combining sustainability with intelligence to make driving safer, simpler, and more rewarding.”

Xpeng differs from many car brands in that it develops its full-stack advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) and intelligent in-car operating system in-house, rather than securing them via third party providers.

The make also self-develops core vehicle systems such as the powertrain and electrical/electronic architecture.

More details on Xpeng’s upcoming product and technology roadmap for New Zealand are set to be revealed ahead of the first outlet opening in Auckland.

However, Royce says Xpeng aspires to become a global leader in AI mobility, with a mission to drive the ‘smart EV’ revolution through cutting-edge technology, shaping the future of mobility.
