Meet Elevance, Mitsubishi's six-seater all-terrain SUV

Make’s promise of delivering a design study for a go-everywhere electrified luxury model has fulfilled in Tokyo today.

A CROSSOVER concept Mitsubishi says points to the future design direction it intends to take has unveiled in Tokyo, with a radical twist to its plug-in hybrid approach.

Running four electric motors - one in each wheel - as well as a combustion engine, the three-row, six-seater Elevance was fully revealed at Japan Mobility Show 2025, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show.

Today’s debut comes two weeks after it teased the type and placed it alongside what seems to be a production-ready new generation of the Delica, a long-standing van family that has now branched beyond full-sized editions to also include a smaller minivan. The pair are pictured below.

Elevance is pitched as an urban-meets-outdoors crossover with smooth, seamless styling and a cabin designed for “quality time” on board.

Mitsubishi says the spacious interior can convert into a luxurious in-car sleeping environment, turning destinations into a “glamping retreat”.

It pairs the brand’s electrification and all-wheel control technologies for strong performance and a comfortable ride on rough terrain, with personalisation features tailored to different lifestyles.

Expectation of it being a fully electric project has not realised with the design study, which instead follows current convention with the Outlander in taking a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Mitsubishi Japan has not specified the engine capacity, battery size or any outputs, but says it has a quad-motor 4WD system utilising a new rendition of its signature Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology, enabling confident, comfortable driving across diverse driving scenarios – from urban streets to off-road adventures.

It says the combustion element of the powertrain features an engine compatible with carbon-neutral fuel, so as to deliver “the clean, exhilarating performance of an electric motor drive.”

It suggests the drivetrain is allows it to operate as an electric car “for nearly all everyday driving … while its hybrid capabilities allow for worry-free travel on longer excursions without concern for remaining battery.”

The motor placement allows control of traction at each individual wheel and so “further enhances off-road capability, while body control helps keep the vehicle level on uneven terrain.

“Even when powering over rugged roads, the Mitsubishi Elevance Concept enables a smooth ride by minimising wobble and sway to help reduce the risk of carsickness.”

What it calls a large-capacity traction battery also provides power to transform adventure destinations into luxurious glamping retreats when paired with a trailer.

The concept also introduces AI Co-Driver, which encourages exploration into the unknown by suggesting destinations tailored to each driver’s lifestyle.

The instrument panel features a large-screen monitor that fully extends from the driver’s side to the passenger side, giving the driver an intuitive view of front blind spots and other areas around the vehicle that are not normally visible. Even on rough roads that could potentially damage the floor panel, the vehicle powers through safely and confidently to its destination.

The three-row, six-passenger seating layout offers spacious interior room that allows family and friends to travel in comfort even when loaded up with luggage. The high-quality leather seats cradle everyone snugly for a comfortable ride, even when spending long hours on the road, the make says.

By turning everyday travel into a personalised journey, Mitsubishi says, “the concept redefines mobility as a high-class adventure – enriching both the experience of being on the road and the time spent at each destination.”
