Electric Cayenne a big screen attraction
/Not only does it have a giant centre display, but it’s also bendy.
NOTWITHSTANDING that the hybrid variants managed some penetration, one would imagine that some ‘Porsche purists’ are no more interested in a fully electric Cayenne that meat eaters are in attending a vegan feast.
Still, if the incoming car per se doesn’t interest those red bloods, the technology going into the incoming planet-saver deserves to.
There’s not long to go until the car is fully revealed, but to amp up attention Weissach has released the first images and details of the model’s new interior.
Along with a 14.25-inch OLED screen for the digital instruments and the (optional)14.9-inch passenger display, is what Porsche calls the 'Flow Display'.
That's the OLED touchscreen in the middle of the car. Look closely … it actually curves down into the centre console.
This is the 'Porsche Digital Interaction display and operating concept’. To plebs it’s the largest continuous digital surface yet for a Porsche.
It’s standard, but don’t worry, there’s plenty of opportunity for that all-important personalisation process: 13 interior colour combinations, five accent packages and four interior packages.
There are leather and leather-free upholstery options, including a 'Pepita' print and 'Magnesium Grey', 'Lavender' and 'Sage Grey’ are new colours.
Heating for the seats and steering wheel isn’t enough for Cayenne customers. They can order in surface heating for the armrests and door panels. The rear seats will be electrically adjustable as standard, too.
The sunroof lacks a sliding blind because it has 'Variable Light Control’, which uses liquid-crystal technology to tint accordingly. The front section of the roof can slide open.
Any other tech? Porsche mentions the incorporation of an AI-powered voice assistant and the new Porsche Digital Key. A couple of weeks ago it was spruiking a wireless charging system buyers can install at home. Assuming it gets sign-off here.
The battery pack can charge at up to 400kW on a suitable powerful DC charger thanks to the car's 800-volt electrical architecture, and 11kW on the AC-supplied wireless charger.
The car also has an active suspension system called Porsche Active Ride and is mooted to get a 3500kg tow rating.
And if you’re thinking this is a black day for Cayenne? Not so.
The introductio of all-electric Cayenne does not signal the end of plug-in-hybrid and petrol models. They’re still coming as well. But diesel is dead.
