Instrument glitch prompts Toyota recall
/Seven popular models built between mid-2022 and late 2024 affected.
FULL reprogramming of the digital display system within the instrument panel in more than 9000 popular Toyotas sold new here is required.
Toyota New Zealand has advised that is the reason for a recall campaign affecting the Camry, C-HR (above), Corolla, GR Corolla, Corolla Cross, Highlander, and RAV4.
The action affects vehicles with build dates ranging from July 2022 to November 2024; in all, that’s a count of 9259 examples.
The core issue is a potential software glitch in the instrument cluster, known as the combination meter.
Instrument cluster faults can affect the visibility of important information such as speed, fuel level, and warning lights, but none of those matters has been specifically identified.
While Toyota says this is a precautionary move, it involves a full reprogramming of the digital display system, a process demanding up to three hours’ attention.
Work that will be carried out free of charge by Toyota dealerships and owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand via mail, using registration information.
An online lookup tool is also available at toyota.co.nz/owners/recall, allowing drivers to check their registration number and see if their vehicle is included.
