Fresh interior, more range for Q4
/Audi’s entry electric sports utility has more revisions than might initially meet the eye.
SAME range, maybe? More range … yes.
That’s the story for the Audi Q4 in its mid-life facelift form.
Modest changes mark out the revised exterior of the electric crossover, though the cabin is altered, adopting the same digital technology seen in Audi's other cars. Under the skin, Audi has upgraded the electric powertrains to offer more performance, faster charger and longer range.
Just to refresh your memory. In its original format that came here in 2023, there was a 220kW quattro that lent 522 kilometres’ running in the Sportback format, and 511km as a SUV, and a rear-drive 150kW edition which, in the same body styles, was good for 542km and 528km respectively. All those figures to the WLTP calculation.
Now, the longest-legged car, the Sportback in performance guise, will give up to 592kms’.
The entry-point, simply called the Q4 e-tron, has new 150kW electric motor drives the rear wheels in either case providing up to 152kW and 350Nm of torque.
This model features a 63kWh battery pack (of which 59kWh is usable) for a range of 440km (SUV) or 451km (Sportback). This car can be charged at up to 160kW on DC chargers.
All the other variants announced use a larger battery of 82kWh capacity (77kWh usable). That Q4 e-tron performance is powered by a single rear motor like the standard car, but with higher outputs - up to 213kW and 545Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100kmh time of 6.6 seconds. The lowest range from that larger battery is 578km, and the peak DC-charging rate is quoted as 165kW.
Now to the quattros, now a pair, using two electric motors for all-wheel drive, in standard and performance formats.
For the first, peak power is 223kW, they do 0-100kmh in 6.2 seconds and will cover 558- 573km.
Then there’s the Q4 e-tron quattro performance, producing up to 253kW for a 0-100kmh time of 5.4 seconds. This is the only version to charge at up to 185kW, and the official range numbers are 541km and 554km for the SUV and Sportback, respectively.
The exterior makeover for the 2026 Q4 is mild; a slightly reshaped grilled, S line cars take silver-matte 'blades' on each corner of the car, a new diffuser at the back and a reprofiled roof spoiler. plus new wheel designs.
The car gets digital LED lighting and OLED rear lights, with selectable daytime running light signatures when you upgrade to the matrix-LED tech.
Inside, a big alteration. All models will get an 11.9-inch display for the digital instruments, and a 12.8-inch touchscreen integrated seamlessly behind one surface. A 12-inch passenger touchscreen is optionally available, as is a head-up display using augmented reality.
Also, now Q4 e-tron comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability for the first time in any Audi, while the all-wheel-drive Q4 e-tron quattro can now tow up to 1800kg of braked trailer.
Which sounds best for you? That’s where it gets tricky, as Audi NZ has yet to confirm the exact model range for here.
The cars will start filtering through in a few months from now and expressions of interest are encouraged.
“While this is a product upgrade, the new Audi Q4 e-tron feels more like an all-new model,” says Greg Leet, Audi NZ’s general manager.
“Not only is it more modern and striking in appearance but it also impresses with an all-new interior.
“A suite of new features and technological advances further enhance its position as the electric entry point to the Audi brand, and we look forward to shaping the offering for the New Zealand market.”
