Hosted by British Touring Car Championship legend Jason Plato and charismatic radio personality Dave Vitty, this podcast aims to offer exhilarating insights into the world of automotive journalism, complete with natural banter and an impressive lineup of renowned guests.

Dave may not be a household name to many Kiwi listeners; however, Jason Plato will ring a bell for anyone hooked to Top Gear rival show, Fifth Gear and the ’90s era of British Touring Car racing and his door-rubbing exploits with local Ford ace Paul Radisich.

Every episode is fuelled with various topics, from media personalities to racing experiences, creating a captivating and relatable listening experience. Star guests include Formula One icons Jenson Button and Damon Hill, plus the likes of Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, James May and Chris Harris.

Speaking of Top Gear (we’re talking the early stuff here), it was brilliant hearing past co-host Quentin Wilson (above) recount the show’s early days just as Jeremy Clarkson was coming on the scene.

The duo ruffled feathers in a landscape where motoring scribes avoided negative reviews for fear of car manufacturers pulling their advertising. Undeterred, the hit BBC show pulled the middle finger and ploughed on with a new style of candid motoring journalism that has since become the new norm.

Alongside great guest content, the show is genuinely well-polished with natural dialogue that is more like a fun night down at the pub with your mates. With its entertaining and laidback style, it’s hard not to think of a single episode that hasn’t been memorable. On the downside, those watching it on YouTube may find the webcam video format unpolished, yet it still doesn't take away from an engaging experience.

Overall, Fuelling Around is a must-listen for anyone passionate about cars, motoring journalism and racing. The weekly-published show is available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all other good podcast streaming platforms.
