McLaren the man celebrated by one-off model

A special livery on a car showing in Vegas lays in a nod to make’s Kiwi founder.

DESIGN elements directly relating to Bruce McLaren have been incorporated into a special edition of the make’s latest road car commission.

A 750S car, in open top Spyder format, with a livery created by McLaren Special Operations has revealed ahead of this weekend’s Formula One Grand Prix in las Vegas.

The one-off ‘Project Viva’ customer car is mainly about translating the Las Vegas’ rhythm, architecture and atmosphere through hand-painted monochrome linework.

In addition to capturing the character of the city, the ‘Sketch in Motion’ livery also weaves in McLaren’s racing and design heritage with symbolic iconography relating to the history and heritage of the New Zealander who founded the McLaren team and raced, engineered and designed its early products.

So, if you look closely, you’ll find Bruce McLaren’s first ever motorsport prize from his first ever race, the Muriwai Trophy awarded at the Muriwai hill climb, located on the front right arch, complete with #58, his race number for that event.

On the right front bumper is a a stylisation of the racer’s 1970 racing helmet, worn during his final season - a symbolic nod to the heart and soul behind the brand.

Situated on the left-hand side, a ‘speedy Kiwi’ motif celebrates McLaren’s original emblem, with an evolved version subtly integrated around the racetrack details - symbolising the brand’s journey from heritage to modern-day innovation.

The car also features  10 Constructors’ World Championship Stars on the rear bumper - nine in white, one in silver leaf - hand-applied by McLaren Formula 1 Team  drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, in recognition of the team’s 10th title achieved following the Singapore Grand Prix in October 2025.

Also seen are the silhouettes of McLaren Racing’s 10 championship winning cars, shown in order and dated by championship year, mapped onto racetracks across the car.

Bespoke paints featured on Project Viva include Murawai White - seen on the shutters and doors within the Muriwai House motif - and Vegas Nights, a new MSO colour developed exclusively for this commission. The deep black finish is infused with subtle flecks of cyan, magenta and green, designed to capture the neon glow of Las Vegas after dark.

Adding a personal touch, Norris and Piastri contributed their own hand-applied details to the design.
