NZ up for additional Super Duty choices

Premium themed double cab and a pick up styling are in our mix, brand confirms.

ADDITIONAL just-announced versions of Ford’s brawny Ranger Super Duty designed to broaden the muscled model’s appeal will be part of the NZ line-up.

In confirming that the premium XLT variant double cab of the tougher ute range, plus a Pick-Up – featuring an integrated rear tub, also known as a style-side - are also set to sign on for Kiwi use, the Auckland-based distributor has also reminded that availability timing here will lag behind Australia, where it was created.

While our neighbour is taking Super Duty variants from this month, the family is cemented into a 2026 launch schedule here, set to tie down with the roll out in Thailand, where it is being built.

Exactly when next year is still as much of a mystery as the pricing and the full choice of Super Duty variants.

There’s still potential the bigfoot editions might delay until big changes arrive, in June-July, for the Ranger one-tonne ute from which Super Duty derives. The pick-up is not entering production until then.

The mainstream model is dropping the biturbo four-cylinder diesel that has been a sales mainstay here, with more than 70 percent penetration. From mid next year, some editions will regress to a single turbo diesel, with less power, or step up to the 3.0-litre V6 diesel, which has more.

The V6 is the sole engine for Super Duty, but in different tune to the standard ute so as to gain more muscularity - all in tone with its speciality usage as a heavy hauler.

Ford Australia relayed information today about the XLT double cab and the pick up.

The first can be considered a more premium choice, aimed more at retail buyers than fleet users.

As such, it gains leather-accented upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, floor carpet, and front all-weather floor mats.

A set of 18-inch alloy wheels, finished in Magnetite Grey and inspired by off-road rallying, also comes as standard on XLT.

The pick-up is to avail in base and XLT trims and only as a dual-cab.

But XLT grade will also be added to the cab-chassis range – also only with a dual-cab body – with deliveries also to begin mid-2026.

Ford will also be introducing a new exterior paint colour known as Traction Green, available from mid-2026 across the Ranger Super Duty lineup.

“This is the truck for the customer who needs to tow a heavy work trailer or carry a massive payload during the week, but wants to load up the tub and head off-road with the family on the weekend,” said Ford Australia marketing director Ambrose Henderson.

“It effectively bridges the gap between a dedicated workhorse and a premium touring vehicle, giving owners the freedom to work hard and play harder without compromise.”
