Smarten up for diesel X5, X6

Sport Collection outfit for three derivatives - $14k worth of kit adds $4k to RRPs, BMW says.

DIESEL editions of BMW’s strongest selling sports utility, the X5, and its X6 sister ship are now offering with an enhancement pack.

What’s being called a Sport Collection treatment comprises a blend of two factory packages that, in total cost, would be worth about $14,000, but in this instance add $4000 to recommended retails.

The X5 and X6 Sport Collection applies to the xDrive30d and xDrive40d editions of the X5, and the xDrive30d X6. The 30d model have 219kW and 670Nm while the 40d unit creates 258kW and 720Nm.

All three have a 3.5 tonne towing rating with a 140kg lowball download.

BMW New Zealand’s announcement today says the package “provides a compelling proposition for customers with an increased level of equipment while retaining the marque’s renowned powertrains and dynamic prowess at a revised price.”

What the brand is steering clear of is making any comment that might lead to impression this is a step toward the current cars’ retirement, though that is on the cards.

By this time next year we will be talking about the incoming fifth generation of a model line that dates back to 1989.

The next X5 is set to go big on the Neue Klasse language that’ll be first seen here on the new X3 confirmed for 2026.

The next gen car will also provision in fully electric form, with more than 520kW in wildest provision, though the turn toward that is not complete. Reports say BMW plans to keep a petrol V8 in circulation. the electric X5 is code-name G95 and the fossil fuelled type is the G65.

The petrol model will hit production around August next year while the electrics are expected in either 2027 or even 2028.
