Price drop heads update to Omoda electric
/More changes than meet the eye to E5.
MAJOR pricing realignment at cost of minor trim adjustment has hit the car that introduced the Omoda brand to Kiwis 14 months ago.
Common trim amendments span the fully electric Omoda E5 and petrol C5 but buy in to the battery models in the ‘MY25.5’ line is significantly lower.
The greatest cut occurs with the top-spec EX which re-sites to $44,990 - meaning it is $10,000 cheaper than its launch price.
The entry BX, meantime, trims back $3000 on its original RRP, to now site at $40,990.
The update appears to delete built-in satellite navigation and puddle lamps have been removed from the flagship variant, while the heart pump design has changed.
Standard equipment continues to include dual 12.3-inch displays, 18-inch alloy wheels, voice-activated controls, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Both variants continue to be powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, but power is up 5kW to 155kW while torque also revises, Omoda now citing 288Nm having previously indicated the old car had 340Nm. Range remains at 430 kilometres WLTP.
The model continues with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, but from a new unnamed supplier, so capacity drops from 61.1kWh to 58.9kWh.
With the original battery, rapid replenishment uptake topped out at a modest 80kW; Omoda technical data does not cite if this is still the case. It continues to cite that DC fast charging across the 30–80 percent span will take about 30 minutes with a 130kW charger. AC charging is up to 10.3kW.
Driver assistance systems span AEB, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, and door opening warning.
Omoda and Jaecoo are export brands created by Chery, which now also has direct factory presence in New Zealand. They avail via different networks, but are starting to offer highly similar cars, albeit at different price points.
In Australia, where all three brands operate under Chery, the E5/C5 have rebranded as Chery products.
