Altered Atto 3 climbs price ladder

New models, new 800v for two of three - but there’s a sticker hit, too.

MAJOR mechanical and equipment changes to BYD’s Atto 3 compact electric SUV have meant a rejig in pricing position that elevates it out of the sub-$50k budget-sphere.

Incoming before end of this month, the new ‘Evo’ editions will represent in entry Dynamic for $59,990, mid-spec Premium at $65,990 and flagship Performance, for $75,990.

The new stickers mean the cheapest version is $10,000 above what’s been asked at runout the original car, which has been available since 2022.

To assuage this hit, BYD is offering a three year complimentary service plan to anyone trading their original Atto 3 for the Evo.

The Dynamic retains front-wheel drive and a 60.48kWh Blade lithium-iron-phosphate battery, as per the outgoing car. Its electric motor produces 150kW and 310Nm, while claimed WLTP driving range is 420km.

The Premium switches from front- to rear-wheel drive and receives a larger 74.88kWh battery. Output rises to 230kW and 380Nm, reducing the claimed 0-100kmh time to 5.5 seconds, while WLTP range increases to 510km.

The Performance has the same battery as the Premium, but being dual motor, gets more grunt - 330kW and 560Nm -  and loses some range, this dropping to 470km. It’s the fastest in the 0-100kmh sprint, with 3.9 seconds claimed.

A move to an 800-volt electrical architecture lifts the Premium and Performance’s maximum DC charging rate to 220kW. BYD claims a zero-to-80 percent charge takes 25 minutes.

The Dynamic retains a 400-volt system and 110kW DC charging, with the equivalent charge taking a claimed 41 minutes.

AC charging is rated at 7kW for the Dynamic and 11kW for the Premium/perormance. All include 3.3kW vehicle-to-load capability.

Exterior dimensions and the 2720mm wheelbase remain unchanged, but the Evo receives redesigned front and rear styling, full-width daytime running lights and revised LED tail-lights.

Inside, a column-mounted gear selector frees additional centre-console space, while the driver display grows from 5.0 to 8.8 inches. Other additions include redesigned door trims, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers and a 50W wireless phone charger.

Heated and ventilated front seats and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat are standard on the Dynamic.

Premium and performance step up to dual-zone climate control and four-way powered lumbar adjustment.

The Premium’s rear-drive packaging also creates additional storage. Boot capacity increases from 434 to 490 litres with the rear seats in place, while a new 101-litre compartment under the bonnet provides storage for charging cables or other smaller items.

Braked towing ratings are 750kg for the Dynamic, but double that for the others. Ski White is the only colour that doesn’t carry a premium. Athene Blue, Harbour Grey, Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey and Parkour Red all cost an extra $950.
