NZ sign-up for special edition Polestar

At least one LA Concept convertible is coming here.

KIWI ownership of an exclusive launch edition of the captivating Polestar 6 electric convertible has been confirmed.

That at least one New Zealand buyer is among those who secured the four-seater in a special LA Concept guise came from Polestar’s national distributor today, in wake of it sharing an international release about how the entire build run of 500 units sold out in a week.

Asked if any of the LA Concept cars had found New Zealand ownership and would be located here, Shaun Summerfield, general manager of communications and public relations for Auckland-based Giltrap Group Holdings, replied: “Yes and yes.”

He said more local news on Polestar 6 would be coming soon.

Don’t get too excited about an imminent sighting of a model offering up to 650kW and a 3.2-second 0-100kmh time.

The special edition is first off the line, but production won’t start until 2026.

The LA Concept was announced on August 16 when the electric roadster concept made its public debut in North America at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event in California. That car is pictured here.

The LA Concept edition avails in the unique Sky blue exterior – and features many other key elements – of the Polestar O2 concept car first shown in March.

It is thought the special will carry a hefty – some say more than $100,000 - premium over the regular version, which is expected to price at around $225,000 and will place as a brand flagship.

“The high interest from our customers shows that a stunning electric roadster like Polestar 6 has high relevance in the sportscar arena,” said Polestar’s chief executive, Thomas Ingenlath.

“The open-top-plus-electric combination is clearly one that appeals to even the most die-hard petrolheads.”

Polestar plans to open reservations on build slots for regular versions of Polestar 6 later this year. Production of the general issue type will begin once the LA Concepts are all built.

With Polestar 6 now included in its portfolio, Polestar plans to launch four new electric vehicles within five years.

The Polestar 2 sedan is already here. It has determined to release an electric performance sports utility, Polestar 3, in October. This will be followed by the Polestar 4 electric performance SUV coupe next year and Polestar 5, an electric performance four-door GT based on the Precept concept car, in 2024.
