Ranger PHEV cheaper, more kit

Mid-life update means entry version gets a $8000 haircut to meet strengthened rivalry from China.

LISTENING to customers at time of strong demand is reason Ford here has given for a price cut for Ranger with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain - but growing competition in that niche might be a better reason.

The Blue Oval said today it has slimmed the Ranger Hybrid XLT’s price by $8000 to $74,990, and the Wildtrak by $4000, so it now sites at $85,990. These actions are specific to the 2026.05 model year products landing now.

The XLT realignment, and announcement of an equipment upgrade, especially brings Ford’s technology closer to Chinese rivals, specicifially the BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon and Cannon Alpha, which all have advantage when it comes to electric pure range.

The mid-life treatment provisions the models with a darker design treatment, with gloss and matte black finishes replacing chrome across exterior and interior details, along with updated wheel designs.

A 12-inch infotainment touchscreen and 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster feature in both grades. The Wildtrak’s instrument display grows from eight inches, and a Mode 2 home charging cable is now included as standard.

XLT equipment spans 17-inch alloy wheels, a drop-in bedliner, intelligent cruise control with Stop and Go, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents and steel underbody protection.

Wildtrak continues on 18-inch wheels and has Pro Trailer Backup Assist, a new black powered roller shutter, Matrix LED headlights, heated leather-accented front seats, eight-speaker B and O audio and ambient lighting. Ignite Orange replaces Cyber Orange in its colour palette.

In provided comment, Mathew Slade, Ford New Zealand’s marketing director, said the price adjustments are a reaction to demand for Ranger Hybrid being strong, “and we listened.”
